On the morning of my birthday last Monday I received bad news that my aunt’s house in Aklan was destroyed by the typhoon Frank. Water rose up to the roof. Saturday afternoon they had to transfer to my Tita Baby’s elevated house while holding on to a water hose. Water level rose up to six feet high, people where on top of roofs for their safety. My kababayan’s are located in Brgy. Cerrudo, Banga, Aklan which is only walking distance from Aklan River which overflowed during the typhoon.

There have been much coverage of the destruction of typhoon Frank in Iloilo but not much on Aklan. Aklan was badly damaged too. People have completely lost their homes. Help from the governemnt have been slow. There are no banks, groceries, water, electricity, communication, hospitals.

On behalf of the people of Banga, Aklan. I am appealing for donations. My uncle (Ciril Rentillo) has a trucking service that will transfer the goods directly from Manila to people of Banga, Aklan. The incumbment Vice-Mayor of Banga, Aklan, Melanio Rentillo is my uncle so if you have any relatives in the area that you have tried to contact with no success we maybe of help in trying to locate them. My contact information is indicated below.

  • - canned goods,
  • - shoes, slippers
  • - noodles

Thank You, Adieu. George Carlin

1937-2008

Comedian and counter-culture hero. Best known for the saying the “7 words” you can’t say on TV/Radio.

There are 400,000 words in the English language, and there are seven you can’t say on television. What a ratio that is! 399,993 to 7. They must really be baaaad. They must be OUTRAGEOUS to be separated from a group that large. “All of you words over here, you seven….baaaad words.” That’s what they told us, right? …You know the seven, don’t ya? That you can’t say on TV? Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits.

Colored Leather Cuffs (Cow and Fish Skin Leather)

Made from pebbled cow leather and fish skin. Fish skin has the same characteristics of lizard leather however fish skin is readily abundant in the Philippines and not endangered. Fish skin has a very aesthetically appealing texture and yet it has firm strength.

The Philippines being surrounded by a huge body of water has an abundant supply of fish. The skin that is usually being discarded can be used as leather material for accents and many potential uses for design.

Leather Goods, Resin Jewelry & Random Updates

I’ve been drowning in work lately. Not exactly work but establishing my own business. I started producing RTW and we only started working two weeks ago. It’s been difficult cause I have to shuffle to Alabang and my place in Pioneer. Ako ang purchaser, merchandiser, patternmaker, accountant. lol except sewer - I have a sewer. But all is well in the hood. I’m loving every minute of it despite the many challenges and difficulties - physical, mental and financial.

Anyway some random updates:

  • I have uploaded our swatches for leather for the customized laptop bags in the previous blog post - http://www.desmendoza.com/swatches
  • We’re giving a preview of the Laptop Bags Holiday Collection on June which will include sleeves and bags with prints, targeted for college students and the hippier market
  • Upcoming Bazaar. I have two in line. One is in Rockwell Tent
  • Leather cuffs will be out this week, yay!
  • Will be uploading the pics of RTW when I can

Sellers Account

I created a separate sellers account - ADD ME: http://frockstarph.multiply.com. I bought a domain for it — http://www.frockstar.nu. Our own online shop will take a while since I’m busy gettings done.

RESIN JEWELRY

One of my favorite materials in this world. I love resin. Love it. Love it. Resin is a flexible material, it’s the same material used for car/boat molds, toys and furniture. Two of my mentors who are artists taught me how to work with resin. But I can only work on small things since you actually need a decent workshop to work with resin as material for scultpures, it don’t smell good. You have to put on protective masks/gloves when working with the more complicated types.

Here are the few stuff me and my minions created. It’s up for sale. The necklaces are one per piece only.

Big Rings - Php 250.00 plus shipping
Necklace - Php 400.00 - Php 600.00

Some of these, in plain unpolished bangle form are being sold in Greenbelt 5 for 3k.

One Ring to Rule Them All. Lol.

check out http://frockstarph.multiply.com for the complete uploads

Pangarap kong makabuo ng Minas Tirith pag magaling nakong mag-sculpture sa resin.

That’s it folks, have a good month ahead. June is birthday season, including mine.

I love you ALL!
