Wonder Woman for DVF

Superheroes are not only invading the silver screen but the runway as well. This Holiday 2008 designer Diane Von Furstenberg will launch her Wonder Woman inspired collection in collaboration with Warner Brothers & DC Comics. The collection will be use prints and motif associated with the iconic super hero. DVF is a big fan of Wonder Woman.

Girl Power na ‘to!

DVF says the collection will be wearable. Well, yeah. Hirap naman pumasok sa office ng ganito:

Hey boss, felt like wearing a cape today.

But seriously, I’d wear the accessories specially the headgear. Because I’m weird like dut.

A few months ago QTV 11 had reruns of Wonder Woman starring Linda Carter. The reruns were in Filipino. My friend Ram did the translations for a few episodes. Translating it in our native tongue is not easy. Ram would rewind the VHS tapes over and over just to translate one sentence. We had hilarious moments during those nights.

There was one episode in particular when Wonder Woman was about to arrest a criminal. Wonder Woman upon entering the premises took the time to close the door gently. Before she arrests the crook she explained politely why she was apprehending him. It was like a teacher explaining to her student the lesson for today. It was an odd scene compared to violent arrests depicted in the movies and TV. Here is a man about to destroy the world and she has time to be Little Miss Manners.

In Super Friends, Wonder Woman had the knack for stating the obvious. “Oh, Batman. Are you tied in ropes by the enemy?!”

Sometimes the rest of us contribute in the translation process. Rule of thumb is you must translate the English sentence in Tagalog in sync with the lips.

So this are some possible translation of the sentence:

“Yes, Director!”

1. Bongga, Kuya!

2. Winner, Kuya! or Winnie Monsod, Kuya!

3. Aye, Aye Sir *salute then wink*

Our contributions didn’t make it trough the cut though. Too bad they stopped showing Wonder Woman already. Translating it was fun.

do you think Diane will make bullet proof bracelets?

Why not? It could be made from kevlar material. Although what’s the point of having a bullet proof cuff when the only thing it could protect are your wrists.
